On Wednesday 2nd September 2009, Brigade Captain and Chairman Will Hogg died while taking part in a charity swim between St. Mary's Lighthouse and the North Tyne Pier.

Will had been part of a group of North Tyneside Beach Lifeguards who were taking part in the swim to raise money for 'Brain Tumour UK' and the 'Stay Strong Stephen Murray Fund'.

Will's funeral took place at Holy Saviours Church, Tynemouth, on Thursday 10th September and was followed by a private cremation.

Will was the leading light within the Brigade and had served as a Captain since 1994 and as our Chairman since 2006. He shall be sorely missed.
