Recovery of a car being swamped by the sea at Blyth Beach

During a coastal patrol, the team were tasked to Blyth Beach where it was reported a car was sinking with persons trapped inside. When team members arrived on scene they were met by officers from the local Police Force who confirmed everyone was safe and well but that the car was facing a much less cheerful fate as it was rapidly filling with water and in danger of being washed out to sea. Brigade members, along with crew members from Blyth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat, attached a tow line to the Mitsubishi Pajero, and with the help of 20 or so members of the public managed to recover the vehicle from the sea. The next hour was spent slowly towing the vehicle, and the Personal Water Craft it had been attempting to recover off the beach and to a local car park, which was made much easier with the assistance of a local farmer and his fork lift truck. It was later discovered the vehicle had become stuck in the sea when it had attempted to recover the Water Craft after it had broken down and failed to reach the usual recovery point at the North end of the beach.

The site that met Brigade Members when they reached the scene.
Crew members from Blyth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat attach a Brigade tow rope to the vehicle
Over 20 people, led by a Lifeboatman, Brigade Captain Michael and Brigade Member Peter, start to pull the vehicle from the sea.
Another view of the tow as the vehicle is just about pulled clear of the sea.
Joy as the Pajero is finally out of the sea!
Admittedly though, it was a little damp!
Brigade Members prepare for the final tow to get the vehicle finally off the beach.
Jubilation as a Farmer's Fork Lift Truck is used to get the vehicle off the beach and to a local car park where a tow truck can recover it, a job well done!
